6 Energy savings tips to keep in mind this summer!

summer energy saving tips image

The summer of 2021 may be going down in history…

...something called football nearly came home, Wimbledon’s in full swing and we’ve still got the Olympics to go!

It can be easy to forget about your energy consumption during this time. Luckily we have 6 key tips for managing your energy this summer:

1. Use an alternative to the oven?

Using an oven on a warm summer’s day can dramatically add to the temperature levels in your home. Why not try using the microwave to heat food? A nice cold sandwich, or a salad during those warm summer days will help to control the temperature levels in your home.

2. Keep the blinds shut!

To avoid your home becoming a greenhouse (especially in bedrooms), why not try to keep the curtains / blinds shut during the day? Blackout blinds are also amazing for keeping the heat out and making sure you get a good night’s sleep!

3. Keep track of your energy usage not only in winter.

It’s important to keep an eye on your consumption even in the summer months to understand how you use your energy.

It’s easy to track your consumption by managing your account online. To learn more about how you can register for an online account visit 'How can I manage my account online?' in our Help and Support section.

4. Make the most out of the outdoors!

Get out in that beautiful sunshine! I think we’ve all spent enough time indoors over the past year… why not switch the tv and the lights off and enjoy those warm summer nights in a park or the garden?

5. Avoid the dryer?

If you can, why not try to avoid using the dryer this summer? You’ll be able to reduce the temperature in your home and the amount of energy you use! Plus, your clothes will smell amazingly fresh!

6. Time to service your HIU?

If the HIU (Heat Interface Unit) in your property is not covered by your utility supplier, then it might be a good time for a HIU Service before the winter months… there’s nothing worse than needing a repair in those colder months. Our partners at HIU Service will be able to help you with this, check out hiuservice.co.uk/ to find out more.
